President's Message
Hi All,
November has arrived and the Club Championships have been completed. Congratulations to all participants for surviving the 4 days of counting them all.
A group of Board members and invited guests attended the recent NSW Golf Industry Awards night in Sydney. You may or may not be aware that Queanbeyan was a finalist in the Country Cub of the Year and Pro Am of the Year. Whist we were not successful in winning it was a great achievement for QGC to make the final and my thanks to all members, employees and volunteers for their efforts in getting QGC to be considered at such a prestigious event. I would also like to specifically call out the efforts of our CEO Tony Treeve, PGA Professional Jake Nagle and MasterChef Victor Prineas, whose efforts have greatly contributed to the QGC success in the last 12 months.
The closure of Brown St unfortunately continues as a work in progress to finalisation. After presentation of a path inclusion to allow safe pedestrian access to the course without impacting golfers, QPRC have notified us that the November meeting will now determine completeness of the process.
Initiatives being pursued by your Board currently include
- 2 Day Pro Am scheduled for 16/17 March 2020. This year’s event to include some extra items in the agenda which will be confirmed and communicated soon.
Further discussions re the 2020 National Boys Championships with Golf Australia Note the dates in your calendar.
- Outgoing Board of Directors and transitioning of New
We have a number of Board members not standing for re-election. I am sure that you all join me in thanking them all for their commitment, support and valuable contributions and wish them well in their future endeavours.
- Gail Goiser
- Ray Dorsett
- Jerry Smith
- Lee Maiden
Yours in Golf
A/g President

The Captain's Desk
Club Championships 2019
The 2019 Club Championships are now finished and the winners are to be congratulated. Helpers who, I felt sacrificed their games are especially thanked. Leigh Blyton who played early each day and then spent the rest of the day making sure all was going well on the course.
Weather watch started very early on Sunday and Leigh had the siren at the ready if needing to call a halt to play. We had some wet players in the afternoon but none of the dangerous weather conditions predicted. Ian O’Donnell and Ray Dorsett were “spotting” on the course each day before their own games. Thank you also extended to Ian Wallace for spotting both weekends, Glenda and Nick Loades and Jan Haskins all doing sessions of spotting.
The joint presentation of trophies had to start a little earlier than advertised, players were wet and I apologies to anyone who arrived at the later time.
Photos of all winners are on facebook and thank you to Jake for this.

CEO Update
Hello again members.
We are OFF TO THE POLLING BOOTHS!!!
Thank you to those members who nominated for the Board of Directors for the upcoming year. Nominations closed on Friday 8/11/2019 at 5.00pm, with the sole nomination of John Bull for the office of President, and the sole nomination of Scott Cameron for the office of Vice President. These gentlemen will have their offices confirmed at the upcoming Annual General Meeting. Congratulations to both!
The position of Captain did not receive a nomination, therefore a further call for nominations will be made from those eligible members in attendance, at the upcoming Annual General Meeting.
There were seven (7) nominations received for the six (6) available positions of Director. This has prompted a ballot for the election of the final six.
Voting in this election will take place on Tuesday 26/11/2019, Wednesday 27/11/2019 and Saturday 30/11/2019, between the hours of 10.00am and 2.00pm daily. (Please refer to member’s notice board for full details)
VEGETATION MANAGEMENT PLAN
The Green’s Committee are currently drafting a Vegetation Management Plan (VMP), to assist the performance of the club’s existing Golf Course Presentation Standards. The committee in seeking input and assistance from various sources, internal and external, to create a plan that guides the club in establishing and maintaining the best possible standards of vegetation management for our golf course.
If you, or someone you know, is an arborist, horticulturist, or has significant knowledge and/or experience in this area, please contact me at ceo@queanbeyangolf.com.au to arrange a meeting. Any and all positive contributions are very welcome.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The club’s auditors are close to signing off our accounts for the past financial year, so that means that the AGM must be just around the corner!
Pencil the evening of Monday 9th December 2019 (at 6.00pm) in your diary, as that appears to be the likely date … if the auditors are happy. Which I am certain they will be!!!
Keep an eye out on the member’s notice board for the confirmed date, as well as the next issue of the Club Newsletter.
As always ….. may the breeze be at your back, and every putt be your last!!!

Women's Captain
Friday 4 October 2 teams entered the VW scramble in Goulburn. The team of Pauline Jeffery, Liz Smyth, Fran Miller and Sam Mclintock were .3 off coming first. Queanbeyan Golf Club will be holding their Womens VW scramble on Monday 24 February 2020. So pencil that in your diaries.
Saturday 12 October Liz Clark won the Monthly Medal with an impressive 83/68. That handicap is going in the right direction.
Amber Thornton was one of the team members to represent Queanbeyan in the first round of the Far South Coast State Junior Pennant Championships at My Broughton. Due to a tie in the matches, it fell to the # 1's to have a playoff. Amber won the first playoff hole with a birdie and that was that, end of story.
Also on 20 October we had a contingent of women playing in the regional finals of the 2 person Ambrose. Shirl Weber and Julie Meskell came 2nd by .25, Dee Rodgers and Jacqui McMillan came 4th.
The Australian Seniors was at Nelson Bay Golf Club. Pauline Jeffery, Liz Smyth and Nicky Moon from Federal were representing the ACT unfortunately they didn't fare so well in the team match and NSW won by 1.
Liz Smyth made the finals in her age flight but was defeated by Nicky Moon.
Even with super caddy Pauline Jeffery it wasn’t enough.
Liz also was 3rd in the Super Senior Order of Merit. Congratulations.

Golf NSW Medal Playoff was held at Belconnen Golf Club. Those that qualified were Fiona Doyle, Chris Kawamata, Sam Mclintock, Julie Seaman, Jacqui McMillan and Faye Corbett. Well done for qualifying but bad luck for not going through to the next round.
The Canberra Shield was at Federal Golf Club on the last day of October. We had 8 players from Queanbeyan representing our Club. One of our newest members was a standout Anne Pratt with a 4/3 win. Liz Clark, Kerry Mynott and Sue DeSousa also won their matches Jo McKenzie, Kerry Smith, Leanne Griffith and Trish Ziebell may not have won their matches but didnt give up. RMC won the Canberra Shield for 2019.
The Club Championships 2019 are done and dusted for another year.
What a tussle at the top in all divisions.
Congratulations to all the winners, Lauren Maher, Fran Miller and Sam McLintock including Last 36 holes winner Lauren Maher, Long Marker winner 30-45 Maureen Van Maanen, Medal of Medals winner Fran Miller and Best Veteran Karen Ebsworth who by the way did a mammoth job of compiling all our scores into a spreadsheet for all to see.
Thank you to the greens staff for keeping the course in such good condition given the trying circumstances you are constantly dealt.
Dates to remember Womens AGM 7pm Monday 18 November and Womens Presentation night Tuesday 3 December also 7pm.
You may have already met or played with our newest members but please make yourself known to them if you haven't already Lynda Carbone, Anne Pratt and Jan Lewandowski.

Sand Buckets
How good are we getting at this? Really good.
We have 2 designated areas, near the 8th tee and at the back of the 18th green to put the Sand Buckets after you have finished your round? Invariably a large percentage of them are left full. Let's make an effort to:
A) put them in the designated area after each round, and
B) empty them on your last hole that you play as I am sure there are plenty of opportunities to do so.
|
|
Divot Boxes
With the new couched tees it is very important that we fill in divots made on the Tees as the couch is a "running grass" and grows best on level ground.
If you are playing with someone and they take a divot and don’t fix it, Can you either fix the divot with the sand provided in the Divot Boxes or nicely suggest that they do so.
Practicing on the Course
Just a reminder to golfers that we have practice facilities and that the golf course is not a place for a myriad of balls. A member was seen practicing with his "shag bag" of balls this week. please refrain from doing this and keep your practice to 2 balls whilst on the course

Membership
A reminder to all Clubhouse and Golfing members that memberships that have not been renewed will need to ASAP to use the Golf Club facilities - unless your Clubhouse Membership is through until 2020 or 2021.
The club is required under law to follow regulations that don’t apply to restaurants outside of licensed clubs.
Please be advised that patrons who reside within 5 kms ("as the crow flies") must either be members, or signed in by an accompanying member. If you live outside of 5 kms, you must provide residential identification and then complete the Temporary Members register. Superintendent's Report
Congratulations to all winners in the club championships. Conditions weren’t easy, yet some very good scores were achieved by many. Well done to those members.
Disappointingly, with the new tees in play totally the second weekend, many, roughly a third of participants didn’t repair their divots. I insist that a small amount of sand is placed in each divot, and smoothed out with your foot. This will assist in re-growth and enable greenstaff to spend valuable time on other tasks. Warmer weather coming into summer will aid growth, so please take good care of the tees. The odd warm spell has resulted in more frequent irrigation needs. Please bare with the odd wet areas, its all beneficial in maintaining good growth and soil moisture.
Good golfing BK
