Match Committee
Prize Presentation for 2018 major events We were unable to celebrate with a presentation function before Christmas for the 2018 major prize winners as the clubhouse was being upgraded. The Women’s NSW Open has come and gone and now dining patronage has almost outgrown the club. The decision has been made to have a low key late afternoon function in the clubhouse on Sunday 2nd June. All prize winners will be contacted with details.
Pennant We only have the junior pennant team still competing in 2019 season. The Masters Handicap team was on top of division well but was defeated in semi final by Royal Canberra. In 2020 it is hoped that the team can go one step better and bring the flag home.
4BBB Matchplay Championship The final for this event will be played on Saturday 11th May. The match tees off at 10.58 with Matt Doyle and James Brown against Mark Hansen and Igor Blazeski.
Matchplay Championship The qualifying round was held on Saturday 4th May and the first round of Matchplay will be Saturday 18th May. In A grade Lachlan Tisma powered home with birdie on 17th and eagle on eighteenth for 68 and three ahead of Tasi Lolesio with Harry Smith 3rd qualifier with 72. B Grade top qualifier was George Mason 87 and second place to Paul Morshead 88 on countback from Igor Blazeski. John Doyle was top qualifier in C Grade, two shots ahead of Anthony Wrate.
Reminder Foursomes Championship over 27 holes will be held for both men and women on Saturday 25th May.

CEO Update
Hello again members. Welcome to winter!
Members are encouraged to take to the fairways as much as possible prior to the frosts and fog, and take advantage of the golf course condition, which is probably the best it has ever been, going into the winter months.
Members are advised that after much consideration, the Board has set the subscription fees for the upcoming 2019/20 season. With very modest increases around the 5% mark, the Board has been very conscious of keeping fees to a minimum, whilst at the same time, producing a golf course that is the envy of every other golf course in the region, and of which members can be (and are) very proud.
Our commitment to keeping fees as low as possible, is our way of saying thank you, to all of you who have supported the Club over many years.
In setting the fees for the upcoming year, we have thoroughly researched our competitors, and have concluded that golfing membership for the upcoming season (1/8/19 – 31/7/20) at Queanbeyan Golf Club, still represents the very best value for money golfing membership you will find. We have “done the sums” on membership fees, course levies, competition fees and cart hire, and can proudly boast that NO other golf club in the region (or anywhere else, just quietly) can provide a better “bang for your buck” than Queanbeyan Golf Club.
In return for your continued commitment, we will NOT be resting on our laurels! The Club has plans for many more improvements, both on the course and off, for the upcoming year. So, for you members who are “joining us for the ride”, you will need to strap yourselves in!
To coax you along, we have put together a fantastic golfer’s package (valued at over $1500.00), as an EARLYBIRD PRIZE for our upcoming membership renewals. The prize package includes the following;
- Bennington golf bag
- Clicgear golf buggy
- Odyssey 2-ball putter
- Ecco golf shoes
- Bushnell Tour V4 rangefinder
- 1 x dozen Titleist Pro V1 golf balls
- Queanbeyan GC cap
- 1 x 30 min lesson with Jake Nagle
All this could be yours, simply by paying your upcoming season’s fees (in full), prior to 1/7/2019.
Entries are open to any member, from the following categories of membership;
- Platinum Plus***
- Platinum**
- Full playing (7 day)
- Intermediate (6 day)
- Weekday (5 day)
- Colt (21-24 yo)
- Club 30
***Platinum Plus members will receive three (3) entries into the draw.
**Platinum members will receive two (2) entries into the draw
The EARLYBIRD promotion will commence at 10.00am on 1/6/19, and closes at 5pm on 30/6/19 …. SO GET IN EARLY!!!! (full details are available at Reception)
Any member wishing to discuss their membership options (including upgrades to Platinum or Platinum Plus) are invited to contact me at any time. Feel free to come down for a cuppa and/or a chat.
Until next time. Good golfing, and may the breeze be at your back, and every putt be your last.

Women's Captain
April started with the 2 day Pro Am. Day 1 the team of Wendy Lynch, Pauline Jeffery and Pam Sassella were runners up with their professional Matt Stieger, who I hear landed his tee shot on the 5th green.
Belconnen had their open day for the year with Pauline Jeffery winning overall gross, Gill Maiden winning overall nett and Liz Clark winning Div 1 nett. Well done. The rest of us were lucky enough to win balls.
Monthly Medals for April i.e. Tuesday and Saturday were won by Jennie Smith with an impressive 70 and 69 respectively. Jennie is obviously getting back in form after her operation - look out.
The 3 person ambrose was held on the Saturday of the Easter weekend with our visitor Kaye Forrest being in the winning team with a score of 52.5 closely followed by the runners up Fiona Doyle, Amber Thornton and John Doyle with another healthy score of 54.6.
Have you been to the women's room downstairs? Thank you to all the helpers for getting it looking so smart. It will take a bit of getting used to in routine but at least it should be free of graffiti from drunken revellers and the overflow of storage to negotiate.
Monthly Medal for May Saturday was won by Julie Seaman with a 70 nett. Nice to see you back playing Julie after your continuous hard work for the lead up to the NSW open.
You may have noticed our first Lennock Motors sponsored stableford for the year on Tuesday, Lennock Jaguar were are also our major sponsor for our Open Day. Our Open day was a huge success with 117 players in attendance from as far as Newcastle and Wagga Wagga. Thank you to George Miklas from Lennock Jaguar. Unfortunately there was not a hole in one so the Jaguars go back home. Lennock Jaguar also donated the other major prize.
The Queanbeyan Open Day Champ was our very own Lauren Maher with 76 Gross. Doreen Perry was the overall Nett winner with 68 and the Bessie Young trophy donated by Jake Nagle our Pro.
Div 1 Gross winner Pauline Jeffery, 3rd Cathryn Husdell. Nett runner up Fran Miller, 3rd Deb Baker ocb.
Div 2 Gross runner up Julie Seaman, Gross 3rd Gill Maiden. Nett Runner up Julie Meskell and 3rd Trish Ziebell.
Div 3 Gross ocb Denise Butler, Judy Tucker Gross runner up, 3rd Christine Dorman. Nett winner Julie McDonnell for Div 2. Veterans trophy won by Rhonda Broderick.
NTP on the 8th Pauline Jeffery unfortunately not close enough for the Hole in One. Cathryn Hanrahan NTP for Div 3. Julie Meskell longest drive for Div 2.
Pairs were shared between Rhonda Broderick and Trish Ziebell, Liz Smyth and Pauline Jeffery with combined totals of 148.
Thank you to the Women’s committee for their efforts in making this such a success and Wendy Lynch for working behind the scenes with our sponsors. Our volunteers on the course, spotting, marshalling which helped to keep the field moving very smoothly thank you once again. Not to be forgotten are all of you, our women contingent for donating such wonderful prizes in the raffles, which were spread very nicely between the Queanbeyan women members.
The next big event is the Women's foursomes May 25 Have you got your partner sorted? $20 per player, fun day 27 holes.
Queanbeyan is in the final of Bruce Cup to played on Sunday 19 May against Federal at
Belconnen Golf course at 10:20. I am sure they would love some support and a cheer squad. Unfortunately none of our other pennant teams will make a final and I am sure you will agree that is not from the lack of team effort. Thanks to all the players for representing Queanbeyan Golf Club so well.

For those of us who are keen followers of Chloe Thornton at Kennesaw State University here is small extract from their newsletter:
"To earn ASUN Freshman of the Year is such an honor. To earn it with unanimous honors while also being named First team All-Conference and All-Freshmen team too shows the depth of Chloe's talent and the respect she has earned within the conference. Chloe is by far one of the most talented freshman we have ever recruited but what really makes Chloe great is her work ethic. Every day she comes to practice with a plan and does not leave until she has executed it.". For those interested the link is ksuowls.com

Divot Boxes
With the new divot boxes on Holes 5, 6, 8, 12, 15 and 17 please make sure you keep the lid closed after use as this stops the seed from germinating inside the box.
If you are playing with someone and they take a divot and don’t fix it, Can you either fix the divot with the sand and seed mix or nicely suggest that they do so.
Sand Buckets
Can someone please explain to me why the sand buckets are left in the car park and around the club entry points when we have 2 designated areas, near the 8th tee and at the back of the 18th green to put them after you have finished your round? Invariably a large percentage of them are left full. Let's make an effort to:
A) put them in the designated area after each round, and
B) empty them on your last hole that you play as I am sure there are plenty of opportunities to do so.
Thanks

Hoops and Ropes
As golfers we can do with some improvement in this area. If you see hoops or ropes down it would be appreciated if you could take the time to put them back to protect these areas.
It would be great if and when you need to move a rope, hoop or sign that you replace it to its original position.
The Greens staff place these hoops, ropes and signs periodically around the course to protect new work and regenerate worn areas.
